ecoENERGY Retrofit Grants and Incentives

the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program is no longer accepting bookings for pre-retrofit evaluations. The program will continue to be administered until March 31, 2011. If you have already booked an appointment for a pre-retrofit evaluation, have completed an evaluation or applied for re-entry to the program, you remain eligible to apply for a grant.

CANADA – PROVINCIAL

BRITISH COLUMBIA

LiveSmart BC: Effiency Incentive Program

Homeowners who make energy efficient upgrades to their homes may be eligible for provincial and federal incentives (ecoENERGY Retrofit Program) and PST exemptions through the British Columbia Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources. A certified energy advisor with the LiveSmart BC: Efficiency Incentive Program will perform an energy assessment of your home and recommend cost-effective options for reducing energy use. MANITOBA

Residential Earth Power Loan

Manitoba Hydro’s Earth Power Program offers homeowners who are installing geothermal heat pumps with access to Residential Earth Power Loans. The loan includes financing up to $20,000 for new installations and retrofits. The heat pump must be designed and installed by a certified contractor. NEW BRUNSWICK

Efficiency New Brunswick

Efficiency NB will subsidize a home energy assessment by a Natural Resources Canada certified energy advisor up to $400, depending upon the size of your home. Once you have completed energy efficient upgrades to your home based on audit recommendations (including geothermal), you will be reassessed and Efficiency NB will provide a grant to a maximum of $2,000 or an interest-free loan up to $10,000 repayable over a maximum six-year term. ONTARIO

Geothermal Energy Systems Rebate

Rebates are available to homeowners from the Ontario Ministry of Revenue for the installation or upgrade of alternate energy systems, including geothermal energy systems, in single family homes, including multi-unit residential buildings. It also applies to newly constructed homes or multi-unit residential buildings where the Ontario New Home Warranties Act applies. Systems must be installed before January 1, 2010. The rebate for geothermal includes ground or water pipes incorporating either an open or closed loop system and the associated works for the system and fluid and heat pump, including the heat exchanger, when sold for use as part of the system. Ontario Home Energy Retrofit Program

Ontario’s energy conservation program provides homeowners with up to $150 towards a home energy audit and rebates of up to $5,000 for retrofits addressing energy audit recommendations. The rebates apply to single family homes including detached, semi-detached or low-rise multi-unit residential buildings.

To be eligible you must have a certified energy advisor complete a home energy audit. You then have 18 months to make some or all of the recommended upgrades. The energy advisor will apply for the rebate on your behalf after your home has been re-assessed following the eligible upgrades. Eligible improvements include CAN/CSA 448 compliant ground or water source heat pumps. This rebate program can be combined with rebates through the federal ecoENERGY Retrofit Program. PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND

The provincial government offers a PST exemption on small-scale renewable energy equipment with a rating of 100 kilowatts or less including ground source or geothermal heat pump energy generating systems. The exemption is retroactive to April 8, 2005. QUEBEC

Hydro-Quebec Grants

Grants of up to $2,800 are available from Hydro-Quebec for homeowners planning to install geothermal heating and cooling systems. The system must have been installed after April 30, 2007 and must be certified by the Canadian Geoexchange Coalition. Additional financial assistance is also available through the Novoclimat et Renoclimat programs at Quebec’s Agence de l’efficacite energetique. SASKATCHEWAN

SaskPower Eneraction Loan Program

SaskPower Eneraction offers a loan program for residential homeowners and farmers who install a geothermal heating and/or a renewable electricity system. It applies to retrofits in existing homes or installations in new homes. Those eligible can receive a loan for up to $25,000 to install a geothermal system and/or a loan of up to $25,000 to install a renewable electricity generation system. SaskPower Eneraction also offers an additional 10 percent incentive (up to $35,000) for residents who wish to participate in the Net Metering Program. SaskPower Eneraction has added a $3,500 enhancement to its existing provincial Energy Efficiency for New Homes Rebate Program for customers who are building new ENERGY STAR® qualified, R-2000 certified or EnerGuide 80 homes and want to install a geothermal system. OTHER PROVINCES & TERRITORIES

Other than the federal ecoENERGY Retrofit Program, there are currently no known provincial or territories loan or rebate programs available in Alberta, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, or the Yukon.
